Rising from the Rubble, Prints
These original artworks are inspired by the children of Palestine.
I started this piece when I felt utterly useless, watching the suffering of Palestine and not knowing what to do. I didn’t want to paint something pretty, I wanted to paint how it feels.
“Rising from the Rubble” is dedicated to the children of Palestine, to their stolen childhoods, silenced classrooms, and to the unimaginable trauma they endure daily.

The composition reclaims one of the most celebrated wartime photographs in modern history and hopefully sticks two fingers up to this American administration that could stop this madness at any point.
The main image replicates “Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima”, (that’s your homework) and transposes it into the heart of Gaza. The soldiers are replaced by children. Their battlefield is a mountain of broken books, fragments of learning, laughter, and life buried beneath the horrors of genocide.
The sky is the rising phoenix, a symbol of a people who continue to endure, despite decades of genocide, displacement, and the apathy of a Western political system that has turned its face away.

I have kept the children deliberately plain in appearance. These kids have had nothing but trauma for most of their lives. Among them, one is in black. This figure represents the reality that every hour, another Palestinian child dies, the current total being over 20,000 innocent souls in the last 2 years. It’s a child with a name, a family, and a story cut short.
Their faces are deliberately unseen. This anonymity mirrors how the world has rendered them faceless. Yet, through their action and defiance, their spirit will be strong.
"Rising from the Rubble' is both memorial and resistance. It asks you not to look away, to see, to feel, and to remember that behind every headline is a child who once dreamed of holding a book, not a flag.
